Abstract

The purposes of this study are to analyze and describe (1) the application of cooperative learning model Teams-Games-Tournaments on learning mathematics (2) understanding of mathematical concepts of students through cooperative learning model Teams-Games-Tournaments on learning mathematics. Descriptive research is used in this research. Then, the approach in this research is mixed approach, quantitative and qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were students of grade 8th which consist of 32 students. Moreover, the instruments of this research are observation of teacher and student activity sheet, observation test sheet, group work test sheet, games and tournaments test sheet. Research data includes observation, test and interview. The data analysis in this study is taking a data in accordance with the categories for observation of teacher and student activities, while the mathematical concepts of understanding test using indicators of mathematical concepts. The results showed that the teacher activity during the learning process at the beginning activity of the first meeting was 81.25% and then increased by 87.50%, in the first core meeting activity by 77.08% and then increased 79.17%, at the first meeting closing activity of 81,25% then increased 87.50%. The student activity during learning process of student participation in learning of first meeting 81,25% then increased 93,75%, learn first group meeting 75,00% then increase 87,50%, play in first meeting games 87,50% then increase 87, 50%, played in tournaments at the first meeting 81.25% then increased 89.50%. The application of learning mathematics by using cooperative learning model Teams-Games-Tournaments held twice meeting that is at the first meeting of 81.25% and then increased by the student learning activities of 89.06%. The understanding of mathematical concepts of students in the presentation at the first meeting was 80% and then increase by 83%, the game activity at the first meeting was 80% then increase by 82%, in the tournaments activity at the first meeting by 82% then increased by 87%.
