Abstract

Background: Multi Drug Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDRPA) is the situation where Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria become resistant towards three or more antibiotics such as penicillin, cephalosporin, carbapenem, aminoglycoside, and flouroquinolone. P. aeruginosa is an opportunistic bacteria that often causes nosocomial infection on immunocompromisedpatient. Pineapple peel extract was proven to be able to suppress the growth of gram-positive and negative bacteria, because it contains bromelain enzyme and active ingredients such as: alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin and saponin. Objective: Determining the antibacterial effect of pineapple peel (Ananas comosus) extract towards Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Method: True experimental post test only control group design, with tube dilution test method, and pineapple peel extract concentration of 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.12%, 1,56%. Data analisys were done using One Way Anova, Post hoc Bonferroni, and Linear Regression. Result and Discussion: Minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) was achieved at the concentration of 6.25%. One Way Anova showed significant difference between treatment groups with strength of 0.000 (p<0.05). Post hoc Bonferroni test also showed significant result starting from the concentration of 1.56% with strength of 0.000 (p<0.05). Linear regression concluded that pineapple peel extract had 64% effect towards the amount of invitro Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial colony growth. Conclusion: Pineapple peel (Ananas comosus) extract had antibacterial effect towards Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
