Abstract

Based on the needs analysis on 14 November 2017, in the beginner reading learning students had difficulty to spell, distinguishing similar letters, and lack of letters when writing and makes mistakes in reading, also difficulty in reading long sentences. This research aims to develop the media PANJA for grade 1 elementary school students and know the effectiveness of PANJA media for grade 1 elementary school. This research uses ASSURE development model ASSURE (Analyze learner, State Standart and objectives, Select strategies, tecnology, media and materials, Utilize tecnology, media and materials, Require learner paeticipation, Evaluate and revise). The research was conducted in 1st Grade at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu on 31 March 2018. The second study was conducted in 1st Grade at SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang on 27 March 2018. The results showed: (1) PANJA media is valid / valid used as shown from the result of the percentage of media expert of 97.5% with the description very feasible, no need revision while the percentage of material learning expert by 90% with the description is very unnecessary revision (2 ) PANJA media is very effective to be used in learning as evidenced by evaluation value at SDN Torongrejo 01 Batu get percentage of 89% with very good description, while the percentage of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang is 81% with very good description (3) PANJA media is very interesting seen from the questionnaire of student responses at SDN Torongrejo 01 get percentage of 93% with very interesting information, while the percentage of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang is 95% with very interesting description. The result of this research, PANJA media able to facilitate students in learning to spell especially for beginner reading. Then, PANJA is designed based on the characteristics of grade 1 elementary school students and able to attractstudents' attention. If other institutions can test PANJA media, then this media can continue to be developed into a media that facilitate thematic learning.
