Abstract

This research aims to describe: (1) implementation of Think Pair Share (TPS) model with Problem Solving method, (2) students reasoning ability in solving TIMSS reasoning question in mathematic learning using Think Pair Share (TPS) model with Problem Solving method, and (3) student metacognition process in solving TIMSS reasoning question in mathematics learning using Think Pair Share (TPS) model with Problem Solving method. This research used quantitative and qualitative with descriptive approach. The object of this research was the implementation of Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model with Problem Solving method. Data sources were students of class VIII A Junior High School 8 Malang and researcher. Data were taken by observation to know teacher activity and student activity, working on writing-test was formed in TIMSS reasoning question to know reasoning ability, and interview result to know process of student metacognition. Results of research showed that: (1) the implementation of learning Think Pair Share (TPS) model with Problem Solving method was done very good in accordance with the steps that was designed; (2) students reasoning ability in solving the TIMSS reasoning question got good mastery level, with indicator of presenting mathematical statement in writing or picture in very good category, indicator of doing manipulation in good category, indicator of giving reason or proof to correctness of solution in good category, and the indicator of giving the conclusion from the statements in very good category; (3) The process of student metacognition in solving the TIMSS reasoning question can be classified at 3 groups in each indicator, that was group S1 (completed metacognition process), S2 ( pseudo-metacognition process), and S3 (manual metacognition process).
