Abstract

This research is motivated by the low of critical thinking and problem solving ability of class VIII students in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu. To be able to achieve critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the subjects of mathematics, then in this study researchers using the model of learning TGT (Teams Games Tournament) with a scientific approach. The purpose of this research is to describe the application of TGT learning model (Teams Games Tournament) with scientific approach in mathematics learning, to describe critical thinking to TGT (Teams Games Tournament) learning model with scientific approach, and to describe problem solving ability on TGT (Teams Games Tournament ) with a scientific approach. Types and approaches used in this study is qualitative quantitative descriptive with the subject of students class VIII B SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu as many as 20 students. Data obtained from giving observation sheet of activity of teacher and student, and test question. The result of research of application of TGT learning model (Teams Games Tournament) with scientific approach to critical thinking and problem solving ability of grade VIII students at SMP muhammadiyah 2 Batu shows that (1) Teacher Activity on application of TGT (Teams Games Tournament) learning model with scientific approach got average score is 97.06 included in very good category; (2) Student activity on application of TGT learning model (Teams Games Tournament) with scientific approach got average score is 96,01 including in very good category; (3) Critical thinking of students with overall average score is 76,56 included in category good enough. (4) Student's problem solving ability with average score overall is 78,13 included in category good enough.
