Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of female and male students both written and oral. This research type is descriptive with qualitative approach - quantitative. Data collected through two stages is through the provision of test questions and oral tests of partial derivative material. The subjects of the study were 2nd grade students of Mathematics II A who took the written test and 15 students who took the oral test. Based on the results of data analysis performed obtained data as follows: male students who have the ability of high mathematical communication (write) as much as 2 students, male students are capable of mathematical communication (write) and as many as 2 students and students who have mathematical communication skills write) as low as 1 student. While the oral communication skills of male students as much as 1 student with high oral communication skills, 3 students who have medium oral communication skills and 1 students with low oral communication skills. And mathematical communication (write) female students as many as 15 students have high written communication skills, 19 students who have medium and medium written communication skills and 3 students with low written communication skills. While the oral communication of female students, as many as 1 student with high oral communication ability, 2 students with medium communication skill and 2 students with low communication skill. Based on the analysis conducted on both tests, students who have high mathematical communication ability (write) many who have medium or even moderate mathematical communication ability.
