Abstract

Baobab is a plant that is used as a counterweight to desert ecosystems because of its nature that can accommodate a lot of water and can absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and are resistant to forest fires. Baobab can be used as an ornamental plant in urban areas because it has a unique tree shape and helps reduce air pollution. Baobab can live on land with minimal water availability and can also hold water and resist fires. This study aims to accelerate germination on seeds and growth of baobab seedling (A. digitata L.). This research was conducted in March-June 2018 at the screen house of the Forestry Laboratory, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study uses a Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor is the soaking time in trichoderma solution which consists of 4 levels. The second factor is the composition of planting media which consists of 3 levels. Each of the level is repeated 3 times. The variables observed were seed germination, seed germination rate and seedling growth (height, number of leaves, stem diameter, wet weight and dry weight). Then the treatment that significantly affected was tested using a 5% Duncan test. The results of the study and the statistical analysis showed that there was an interaction on all the variables observed, except for the observation of germination, seedling height and number of leaves. Soaking for two hours using trichoderma is the best treatment for seedling growth. Treatment of sand media, top soil and manure with a ratio of 2: 1: 1 is the most media among other media.
