Abstract

Based on the fact at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang, the learners do not seem to understand the question item in the thematic student worksheet 2 grade II especially the math question item using an open ended approach. Therefore, the research to know the quality of math question item using an open ended approach is needed. This research is aimed to understand: (1) quality of open ended question item on Thematic Student Worksheet 2 grade II at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang in terms of theoretical, (2) quality of open ended question item on Thematic Student Worksheet 2 grade II at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang in terms of empirical. Then, this research uses descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. The subject chosen is the students grade II SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang in 2017/2018 school period with the total of 25 students. This research is conducted on 2 until 23 January 2018 through two stages; data collection and data analysis. This research shows: (1) open ended question item on Thematic Student Worksheet 2 grade II at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang has a good quality because it is appropriate with aspects of the rules of writing the item. Open ended question item can be said valid in terms of content validity. It is appropriate with the basic competencies and existing indicators, (2) open ended question item on Thematic Student Worksheet 2 grade II at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang has a low level of validity in terms of empirical because it does not show a positive correlation between the question item score and the total score. The reliability is high because it shows the provisions of the question item with the number of correlation 0.76. It indicates an easy level of difficulty due to 60% of question item p value higher than 0,7, and it also has moderate or less distinguishing power because the test results indicating 70% of question item has medium and low category differentiation. This result of this study is suggested as a consideration in implementing of open ended question item on Student Worksheet. The frequent of exercise by developing open ended question item will shape critical thinking skills of learners. It can be considered in developing valid open ended question item.
