Abstract

Background: Bilateral cleft lip is a congenital deformity in the form of cleft on both sides of the lips. Based on the severity, bilateral cleft lip could be divided into mild, moderate, and severe. According to Riskesdas, the prevalence of cleft lip in 2013 have increased by 0.08% compared to 2010. Cleft lip treatment in the form of cleft closure surgery usually leave a scar. Scar quality could be evaluated by observing hypertrophy, discoloration, spreading, and suture marks. Purpose: to determine the correlation between bilateral cleft lip severity towards the quality of post operation scar at Cleft Lip Palate Center of Medical Faculty University Muhammadiyah Malang. Method: analytical observation with retrospective cohort method. 33 medical records were taken as sample from Cleft Lip Palate Center of Medical Faculty University Muhammadiyah Malang. Data acquired were classified by degree of severity, according to four indicators: hypertrophy, discoloration, spreading, and suture marks. Then the processed data went through bivariate analysis, specifically spearman test, to explain the correlation between bilateral cleft lip severity towards the quality of post operation scar. Result: Spearman correlation test result was not significant, p = 0.186 (p> 0.05), which meant there was mild correlation between bilateral cleft lip severity towards the quality of post operation scar. Conclusion: there is mild correlation between the bilateral cleft lip severity towards the quality of post operation scar at Cleft Lip Palate Center of Medical Faculty University Muhammadiyah Malang.
