Abstract

The learning outcomes of mathematic examination in the form of story problems are still low. The students have difficulties in understanding the questions which are they do not understand the meaning of every sentence and are less able to formulate what known and asked are. The causes are the teachers still use a lecture methods and lack of involvement of students in learning activities. Therefore, the students become passive and have difficulty in solving the problem or the questions. The aim of this study is to find out the effect of CIRC (Cooperative Intergrated Reading and Composition) Cooperative Learning type learning model in accomplishing math story problem. This research placed at SDN Jatimulyo 1 Malang Academic Year 2017/2018. The method used is quasi eksperiment type nonequivalent control group design. The subjects were 20 students consisting of 11 male and 9 female. The data collection was obtained from pre-test before using CIRC model and post-test after using CIRC model. The test consists of 15 essay questions which are referred to the material of distance and speed measurement. The data was gained by research outcomes that showed the test results tested before using the CIRC model (pre-test) has an average value of 64,75. While the test results tested after using the CIRC model (post-test) has an average value of 77.50. The average learning outcomes using the CIRC Cooperative Learning model of learning are higher than average learning outcomes before using the CIRC Cooperative Learning model of learning. The results of hypothesis test using t-test that obtained t_hitung -6.145 <t_ (table) 2.09. Accordingly, Ho declared rejected or Ha accepted. This means that there are differences in the value of student learning outcomes in doing mathematic story problems before and after using the CIRC learning model and exhibited that the model of learning Cooperative Learning CIRC type effect on student learning outcomes.
