Abstract

Since the AKP has led the regime, Turkey tends to act discriminately against journalists and the media. They are even perceived as anti-state actors simply because they contain the news with criticism content for the government. CPJ as an international organization engaged in the defense of the Rights of Journalists eventually took part in addressing the issue of the press crisis in Turkey. This is what the authors will discuss in this research. This research is a descriptive research that analyzed using qualitative method. The author uses the concept of Non Government Organization as civil society as a tool of analysis in this research. This theory explains about the phenomenon of NGOs that are also moving as civil society in dealing with issues related to human rights. To complete the case analysis, the authors also completed this research with secondary data in the form of library data from book sources, daily online news, and official website. Most of the data in this research is taken from the publication of the official writing CPJ website. Based on the analysis and the library data the authors obtained, it shows that CPJ as one of the international NGOs has succeeded in striving for press freedom in Turkey. Though not entirely successful, this organization has contributed to improving the transparency of the journalists' proceedings and releasing some journalists. All programs organized by CPJ consist of public advocacy and reconciliation programs.
