Abstract

Pembimbing II : Demeiati Nur Kusumaningrum, MA. Women political participation which are still low in number, results in the shortness of women representation in policy and decision making, still need the right step to create equality and access to women in the political scope. Indonesia is one of many countries that ratify CEDAW convention. In this study, writer attempts to explain the development of womens’ political participation in Indonesia after the ratification of international convention CEDAW by seeing the growth of women political participation in political parties and parlements. As for the concept used are, womens’ political right according to CEDAW, declared in article number 7, where it explains one of womens’ right in politics, is to participate in the formulation of goverment’s policy and its implementation. Women’s political right in this study, refers to Miriam Budarjo’s understanding of political participation, which explains that political participation, is the individual action which intends to involve in public policies. According to the study conducted, after the ratification of CEDAW, women’s political participation has been going up and down through the slope. Through the women’s participation in political participation which can be seen through the handling of political parties and legislative candidates, womens representation has increased after the ratification. Besides that, womens political participation in the parlement which can be seen in women representation in the DPR and DPD after the CEDAW ratification, also has been going up and down the slope. As for the follow up which has been done untuk increasi womens political participation, like system implementation of affirmative action like distribuion of quota for women representation as much as 30%.
