Abstract

This research aims to find out the implementation, challenges, and alternatives in managing productive awqaf in Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School. The type of research used is field research. The results of this research show that the implementation of the productive awqaf in Gontor is through the management of the business units named “La Tansa Boarding School Cooperative”. In addition, the key to the success of Gontor in awqaf comes from the practices of Trimurti and the socialization of Islamic Boarding School institutions, namely International Centre for Awqaf Studies. (ICAST). As for Gontor's challenge in developing a productive awqaf, it is divided into two, external and internal. The external challenges come from the landlords, government regulations, and after the death of the land owner. As for Gontor's alternatives in productive awqaf development, it is divided into four categories: involving alumni, working with alumni and working with outsiders, buying and exchanging land.
