Abstract

Based on the need analysis that was completed on November 30th 2017 at SDN Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang with Ms."L", and on December 06th 2017 at Torongrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu along with Ms. "R", it was discovered that reading activity conducted in class II (second grade) Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang and Torongrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu has not applied an instructional media. In addition, the used of the teaching methods are still simple, they use the question and answer method and lecturing only. Thus, it makes reading activity becomes boring and not fun. This study aims to describe: (1) the development of silaba method with flash card media in the basic reading activity in class II SD (second grade) and (2) effectiveness and validity of silaba method with flash card media in the basic reading activity at class II (second grade) primary school. This research is a research and development (R & D) using ADDIE model. There are 5 stages done using ADDIE model which are, (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation. The data source in this research are the class II (second grade) students at Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang and Torongrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu. This research was conducted on January 31st 2018 at Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang and February 2nd February 2018 at Torongrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu by using small group which consist of 4 groups in teaching and learning process. The results showed that the use of silaba with flash card media method effectively applied on the basic reading activity. It can be seen from the test results of second grader students at Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang which they obtained a percentage of 92.9% and Torngrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu which is 93.2%. In addition, the results of questionnaire responses of students and teachers at Mojolangu Public Primary School 1 Malang obtained the results of 95.7% and 100% while the results of questionnaire responses of students and teachers at Torongrejo Public Primary School 1 Batu is 94.5% and 85%. The results of the validity of the flash card media is 86.1%, the manual is 85.7% while the result of the material and the silaba method is 90.6%. The development of silaba method with flash card media is suggested to be a reference or guidance in doing reading activities in class to get a better learning and can be a reference in developing teaching media, and more effective learning method.
