Abstract

This research aimed to describe the implementation of the Example and Non Example model with Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach and to describe the ability of critical thinking and understanding of the mathematical concepts of students by applying Example and Non Example model with Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. The type of research is descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative approaches. Subjects of this research are 16 students of junior high school at VIII class. The data is taken from the result of the student evaluation to determine students’ ablilities of critical thinking and students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The result of the research showed that: (1) the implementation of Example and Non Example model with Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach can be conducted in accordance with the steps that have been planned in the RPP. The average score of the teacher’s activities is 83,02 included in the category of good and the average students’ activities of 79,71 included in the good category, (2) students’ ability in critical thingking better than before with average of 65.10, and (3) The students’ understanding of math concepts have average of 70.53 which is classified in high catetory.
