Abstract

There is still a lot of education not involve the role of students in learning such as ability of students to understand material still relatively now. This causes low quality education. Learning outcomes that are still below the criteria make students interest in learning mathematics less. When researches conducted research, many students were still passive so they had difficulty operating the question into mathematical sentences. They don’t notice that the variables in the problem are different. The purpose of this research to find: 1. There is an increase understanding mathematical students using brainstorming methods. 2. Mathematics learning with brainstorming methods can improve understanding mathematical students in achieving completeness learning students. 3. Student activity in following mathematics learning using brainstorming methods. Brainstorming learning methods is a teaching technique that carried out by the teacher in the classroom by throwing a problem at the student. Then the students argue and answer it so that it develops into a new problem. Expected from this method understanding mathematical students is categorized as good. From the analysis of students ability data in writing the average is 70% with good category. While the analysis of student ability data in verbal the average is 75% with good category.
