Abstract

Language testing is not only part of learning process. It is also part of human life such as, seeking promotion in government, scientific research, and business. As a consequence, for dealing with that statement, University of Muhammdiyah Malang (UMM) made Test of Academic English Proficiency (TAEP) as language testing with international standard to measure students English skill. The goal of this research is to examine whether or not the correlation between score in TAEP and students’ writing achievement. The researcher used quantitative research design to analyze the data. This quantitative research design used SPSS to count the data. The subject of this study was the fifth-semester students of English Language Education Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang and 67 students divided into four small class and selected by systematic sampling. This quantitative research used documents of students’ score as the research instrument. The result of the study showed that the probability was 0.036 < 0.05 and the r value of significant was 0.267. From the result of SPSS counting, the researcher concludes that that null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Furthermore, the correlation between score in TAEP and students’ writing achievement is weak. The sign of r value shows that the correlation is positive.
