Abstract

In fact, the assessment instrument used for two-dimensional figure material in mathematics subject for grade IV of elementary school in SDN Lowokwaru 3 Malang is mostly still procedural with repetitive presentation technique up to 3 numbers. Thus, the development of a good assessment instrument for two-dimensional figure material is necessarily needed. This study aims at developing a valid assessment instrument for two-dimensional figure material in mathematics subject for grade IV students of elementary school. This research employed Research and Development model by Borg and Gall in which its procedure was adjusted to the requirements of this research which are: preliminary study, planning, development of initial product draft, expert test, revision of expert test, limited trial, and revision of limited trial. The source of the data were the grade IV students of SDN Lowokawu 3 Malang which consisted of 35 students from IV B class and 34 students from IV C class academic year of 2017/2018. The data were collected through preliminary observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The validity results of the product are obtained through the experts validation, learning outcomes, and observation of students’ activities. The expert test is consist of 3 validators which are; evaluation expert resulting at 86.25% with a very valid description, linguistic expert resulting at 95% with a very valid description, and material experts resulting at 94% with a very valid description. The learning outcomes of the small group of IV C class gains 81% percentage in the knowledge aspect and 79% in the skill aspect with very valid description. The small group of IV B class gains 82% in the knowledge aspect and 88% in the skill aspect with very valid description. The large group of the IV C class gains 81% in the knowledge aspect and 82% in the skill aspect with very valid description. The large group of the IV B class gains 77% in the knowledge aspect and 78% in the skill aspect with very valid description. The result of observation activities performed by the small groups get 89% with a very valid description of each. While the large groups get 91% percentage with a very valid description for IV C class and 88% percentage with a very valid. Research on Instrument Development Based on RME for two-dimensional figure material in mathematics subject for Grade IV Students of Elementary School is confirmed to be valid. The results of this study are suggested to be used as an alternative of mathematics assessment.
