Abstract

As human expression, literature can be classified into poems, movies, drama, novels. They are called as literary works. The product of the development of drama is called as movie or film. People can learn many things from film because film contains many valuable lessons, messages and pleasure. Therefore, the researcher is interested in analyzing film “The Miracle Worker. The objectives of this study are: 1) to know Annie Sullivan’s reasons to be a teacher for Hellen Keller, 2) to identify the way used by Annie Sullivan to teach Hellen Keller, 3) to find out the problems faced by Annie Sullivan when she taught Hellen Keller. This study used qualitative design because this study tries to analyze the film with qualitative analysis with the emphasis on the profession of the main character as the teacher for Hellen Keller. In analyzing this film as the object of the study the researcher used objective approach. The data were collected by watching the film “The Miracle Worker”, and the data were analyzed based on the dialogue and scenes tha referred to the profession as the teacher for the disabled child ( Hellen Keller) on the main character (Annie Sullivan) in the film “The Miracle Worker”. The result of this study showed that: First, Annie Sullivan reasons to be a teacher for Hellen Keller, are: 1) Dr. Anagnos suggestion, that Annie had an ability to tach the deaf, blind girl (Hellen Keler). 2) Hellen’s Family suppots and 3) Hellen’s curiousity to learn what Annie taught. Second, the researcher find the way used by Annie Sullivan to teach Hellen Keller are: 1) Annie Sullivan teach Hellen Keller about finger spelling by touching and shapping on Hellen’s hand after successful controlled Hellen’s emotions. 2) Annie Sullivan taught Hellen good manner by teaching her eat using a spoon. Third, the researcher also find the problems faced by Annie Sullivan when she taught Hellen Keller are: 1) difference way of thinking between Hellen’s father and Annie Sullivan because Hellen’s father didn’t like the way Annie taught her daughter. 2) Hellen Keller emotional disturbances was the big problem for Annie. Annie tried to control Hellen’s emotional disturbances by ignoring her anger and refused to talk through finger spelling with Hellen.
