Abstract

This study aims to find out how the running dictation can improve the listening ability of students to eighth graders in SMP Negeri 1 Dau This research was conducted after the interview with the English teacher of SMP Negeri 1 Dau. A classroom action research used in this study. This study consists of two cycles following the procedure of class action research, i.e. planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Cycle 1 and cycle 2 each have 2 meetings. The data of this research were obtained through interview, observations sheet, listening test, and field notes. The instrument that was done to collect the data is the interview, observation, pre-test, and post-test. Interview with the person that was in charge of the English subject, would provide the researcher to find out the problems in the classroom. Observation were done during the teaching and learning process, this is done to assess/analyze the behavior of students in the classroom during the learning process takes place. The results of the prelimenary stage shows that the score of students in listening are still very low. The selected class or subject of this research is the 8d class at SMP Negeri 1 Dau. The objective of this research is to know how running dictation can improve the listening skill of the students in the selected classes. findings of this study indicate that running dictation can improve students' listening ability through group collaboration in a game. a significant increase can be seen from the quantitative data where the percentage of students who can achieve the value of KKM increased since running dictation applied. in the quantitative data, the researcher shows that the total mean score is higher after the last post-test in cycle 2. from the data it can be seen that the mean score in the students' increases. evidence of student improvement can also be seen in data qualitative where students become more active and enthusiastically follow the learning activities.
