Abstract

Extracurricular activities are held to talent and interest development sites and also as character formation activities that take place outside the learning hours (intracurricular) in which accordance with the characteristics of learners and focuses on local wisdom and availability of the carrying capacity. Banjari extracurricular holds in Islamic nuane which has several advantages so that learners can feel closer with God and do the cooperation in playing al banjari that can form the value of the character of the relegiusness and mutual cooperation of the students. This study aimed to determine the implementation of strengthening character education, to know the character values appeared in the extracurricular, and to know the constraints in carrying out Banjari extracurricular in SDN Sumbersari 2 Malang. This approach used in this research was descriptive qualitative. It took place in SDN Sumbersari 2 Malang for 1 month which was on February-March. The subjects were the headmaster, Banjari extracurricular teacher, and the 4th and 5th grade students of the school. The research methods were observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The technique of data validity used were technical triangulation and source triangulation. The research obtained the results which were; 1) strengthening character education was integrated in Banjari extracurricular learning, 2) the methods used by the teacher were lecturing and practicing directly, 3) the learning model used were disciplining habits, teaching good behavior, and making the students discipline, 4) the assessment was in the form of assessment process in learning, 5) the evaluation of the teacher had never been done before but there were still inputs for the improvement of the Banjari extracurricular. While the values of characters appeared were religiousness, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The constraints of implementation were; 1) Students and 2) Facilities and infrastructure.
