Abstract

According to the need analysis that was conducted on October 30th, 2017; the result indicates that students are less interested in reading due to the limited facilities for literacy movement of non-textbooks reading before the learning starts. The media used by the teacher is simply made from printed paper and the learning source is solely taken from the book so that the students easily get bored. This study aims at: (1) Producing the development product of PIPI (Pillow Picture) media for literacy movement in elementary school, and (2) Describing students' response toward the development product of PIPI (Pillow Picture) media for literacy movement in elementary school. This study used ADDIE development model which consist of five stages such as; Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study was conducted in February 2018 and followed by 24 grade I students of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang. The result of this study shows that: (1) PIPI (Pillow Picture) media is a worth-using media with appropriate revisions to criticism and suggestions. It is proved by the validation result from the media expert which was initially 76.6 %, turns out to be 96.6 % after being revised. The validation result from the learning practitioners is 96.6 %. The PIPI (Pillow Picture) media is also very effective for literacy movement that is proved by the result of small group implementation which attains 88 %. Meanwhile, the result of large group implementation is 90.3 %. (2) The use of PIPI (Pillow Picture) media achieves a very good response according to the students’ response questionnaire. It is showed by the results of the response questionnaire from small group students which gains 85 % and the response of the large group students which gains 96.25 %. According to the result of this study, PIPI (Pillow Picture) media is proposed to be used as a tool or a facilitator to achieve the literacy movement objectives. PIPI (Pillow Picture) media can also reduce the students’ boredom during reading and can foster students’ interest in reading.
