Abstract

Apples are fruit plants that are rich in benefits. One of the benefits is as a source of antioxidants. According to Kai et al. (2013), callus is more sensitive to salt stress (NaCl) compared to plantlet. This study was conducted to determine the effect of salt stress with a certain concentration level on the antioxidant activity of three apple cultivars callus in in vitro culture. This research was conducted for 3 months at Mitra Culture Laboratory of Anggrek Indonesia, Jalan Hasanuddin I, No 24, Junrejo, Batu, Malang. The research design used was Randomized Complete Group Design (RKLT) Factorial consisting of 2 factors, namely salt concentration (NaCl) and apple cultivar with 3 replications and in each treatment combination using 3 samples. The result of this study is media with the addition of 150 mM NaCl can increase the antioxidant content of three cultivars callus. While apple cultivar of the highest antioxidant content is Fuji of 78.41 mg/g d.w and Rome Beauty of 73.77 mg/g d.w.
