Abstract

Scout extracurricular activity is one of the means used as an alternative way to embed the character values on students in the character education in order to overcome and prevent the character crisis encountered by the Indonesian young generation especially at the elementary school level. This study aims to (1) know the implementation of the character values in scout extracurricular activity at MIT Mardlatillah Singaraja-Bali. (2) know the barrier and the proponent factors in applying the Character Value in the Scout Extracurricular Activity at MIT Mardhatilah Singaraja-Bali This study employed qualitative research type. It was conducted at MIT Mardlatillah Singaraja-Bali in January 2018 (early observation) and April 2018 (data collection). Interview guides, observation sheets, field notes, and documentation were used as the data collection techniques. The informants of this study were consist of the School’s Principal, Scout’s trainer, and students who follow scout extracurricular activity at MIT Mardlatillah. The data were analyzed through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The triangulation of data sources and techniques were also used in this study to check the validity of the data. The results of this study show that the implementation of character values in scout extracurricular activity is well performed. The character values are implied in every scouting activity such as the character value of the religious aspect is applied through the evening prayer activity performed during PERSAMI activity, besides that, not only spirituality, but also physical activity which is healthy scout gymnastic activity. Second, the value of nationalist character is implied on the students’ attitude while attending the scout ceremony activity with order and wisdom. Third, one of the independent character values can be seen when the students follow the game that requires them to utilize the former newspapers as creative as possible to make a crown for their group leader. Fourth, the value of integrity character is seen during LKBB activity; students' honesty in acknowledging their mistake when they perform wrong movements. Fifth, one of the character values of mutual cooperation can be seen from the students’ empathy to victims of natural disasters. The barrier factor in applying the character value is the scout’s trainer are not the trainers who receive scout’s basic training. In addition, there are also proponent factors, such as getting support from various parties, especially from the Police or TNI to train students in the discipline of Marching Skill (LKBB).
