Abstract

Tunagrahita is a term for children who have below average ability of normal children in general. The learning applied by the tunagrahita students is thematic learning. Thematic learning is a learning that consists of a combination of several subjects in a theme. In the research conducted at SDN Mojorejo 01 Batu aims to know: (1) The process of implementation of thematic teaching on tunagrahita students in class V in SDN Mojorejo 01 Batu, (2) Obstacles and efforts in the implementation of thematic learning on tunagrahita students in grade V in SDN Mojorejo 01 Batu. This research uses qualitative research type with descriptive approach. The sources of data are principals, special escort teachers and moderate tunagrahita students. Data technique used to collect data of research result is interview, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques used data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The research was conducted on May 4, 2018 with 2 stages, namely pre-field stage in the form of interview and field stage for data retrieval activity on learning process. The results showed that: (1) The process of teaching thematic execution by the teacher from the planning of learning by preparing the learning instrument such as modified RPP and PPI. Not every lesson uses RPP because of the lack of educators (GPK) and limited time for the preparation of RPP at every grade level. Therefore, this school applies PPI to every students with special needs including students with moderate tunagrahita. (2) Constraints that often occur in thematic learning in tunagrahita students is the ability of students who are limited below average. Efforts that can be done GPK is to explain the material repeatedly, often do question and answer to students, and apply the PPI. In addition, the obstacles in learning are facilities and infrastructure that can not be met optimally because of the limited budget from the Government. Facilities and infrastructure in learning such as learning media. Learning media available in schools is still limited. If the media to be used is not yet available in school, then GPK can replace it with something easily available without changing the intent of the media.
