Abstract

Coffee is a plantation commodity that plays an important role in the Indonesian economy. In 2016 Indonesia was the fourth largest coffee exporting country in the world with an export value of US $ 1,000,620,065 (UN COMTRAD Statistics, 18). According to (BPS, 16) the total export of coffee in the last eight years has fluctuated, from 27, 94% to 30.46%. Due to a decrease in the area of coffee plantations that affect the amount of coffee exports to the destination country. The purpose of this study is to analyze the position of Indonesian coffee and the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in international markets (Germany, Japan and the United States). The type of data used is in the form of time series data from 2008-2017 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and UN Comtrade. The data analysis method used is the Trade Specialization Index (ISP) to determine the position of Indonesia as an exporting country or importer and a Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in the international market. The results of ISP research obtained a value of 0,92 which means that the country of Indonesia is a coffee exporting country. RCA analysis in two countries, namely Japan and Germany, shows that Indonesian coffee has strong competitiveness with an RCA index value of 1,42 and 1,28 while in the United States Kopi Indonesia has a weak competitiveness with an RCA index value of 0,92.
