Abstract

The objectives of the study were to find out the types of reinforcement that the teacher implements in English class and to find out the way how the teacher employs the reinforcement in English class. This study is descriptive qualitative research design because the researcher wants to collect the data in the form of words which were composed into descriptive sentences. Besides, the data collections were not analyzed in statistical procedure. The data was obtained through observation and interview. The instrument used were observation field note and interview guideline. The findings of this study showed that the reinforcements' types implemented by the English teacher were positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement. During teaching English the teacher mostly used positive reinforcement because the students were entitled to get positive reinforcement for doing their best and positive reinforcement was appropriate to be given. The techniques of the reinforcements given by the teacher were verbal and non-verbal reinforcement. During the learning English the teacher employed verbal reinforcement in the form of support and praise, while non-verbal reinforcement was in the form of approaching and mimic & body language.
