Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the senior students' responses toward the use of code-switching during learning process. Descriptive study of qualitative research is applied in this research. Its purpose are to describe and analyze sixth semester students' responses toward the use of English-Indonesian code-switching that employed by the lecturers of English Department UMM. Moreover, the samples were 10 students that chosen from 5 different classes of sixth-semester which is the population of this study. Furthermore, the researcher used interview techniques in collecting the data. The instrument used was in-depth interview guide. Moreover, audio recorder was used as the equipment in conducting the interview. Finally, the researcher found that sixth semester students of English Department have three types of responses toward the use of code-switching during learning process for their level. The types are; (1) Positive Response (2) Neutral Response, and (3) Negative Response. Furthermore, 'neutral' response was divided into two groups. They were; Using both English-Indonesian group and using Full English group. Those types and groups were categorized by the writer based on their responses.
