Abstract

Teaching technique is any of a wide variety of exercises, activities, or tasks used in the classroom for realizing the objective. One of language skills is speaking. Itis used to communicate and interact in daily life.But, teaching English, particularly in speaking skill is difficult to conduct because it is a foreign language. Considering this major problem in speaking, the teacher should give some techniques that can stimulate and motivate the students to speak more. The purposes of this study were ; (1) to know that the existences of variety in teaching speaking techniques motivate students or not on learning English language at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang, (2) to know what the variety of teaching speaking technique implemented to motivate students on learning English language at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. The research design of this study was qualitative research design because this research was focused on the existence of variety technique of teaching speaking to motivate students on learning English language at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malangand what kind of teaching speaking technique used by the English language teacher in MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Meanwhile, in collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments, namely observation and interview. Based on the research findings, the researcher found that the variety of teaching speaking techniques used by teacher were role play, song, picture describing, dialogue, and discussion. So, the English teacher at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang only applied 5 teaching techniques when she was teaching English to VII grade students at MTs Muhammadiyah Malang.
