Abstract

Recount text is a text which deals with someoneÂ’s experience and itÂ’s important to be learned due that this text is also studied in school. As a second language learner, writing recount text is not easy for students where they have to write recount text from their first language into the target language. In this case, Brown (2007) stated that learning second language is different with first language where it is the place for the learner to make any error. The main aims of this research are to discover the errors in writing recount text and to find out the most dominant error in writing recount text by students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. The research design used in this study is descriptive quantitative research design. The researcher describes the eminence of phenomena that is errors in writing a recount text by 10th grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Furthermore, this research uses cluster sampling which the samples of this research are recount text from X-MIPA 1 students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. Based on the result of this research, the researcher draws the conclusion that students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang made errors in addition, omission, misinformation, and misordering error. Also, the most dominant error made by students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang is misinformation error which the frequency of error is 46 %.
