Abstract

Nowadays, many people use internet to help their life such as in education, socializing, communication, and others. The development of digital native's (DN) language is related to the technology development, internet, movie, room chat and social networking are factors that influence language development of digital native. It is different with digital immigrant (DI) that are not too familiar with social networking. Digital natives (DN) usually use Facebook to express their feelings in a sentence. Instead, the digital immigrants (DI) almost use common words in their sentences on their Facebook status updates. But, the language that is used by digital natives (DN) and digital immigrants (DI) are different. For that, writer focuses to identifying comparing the borrowing of languages used comparison between by digital native (DN) and digital immigrant (DI) use social media as Facebook updates status. This study used many concepts, such as digital native (DN), digital immigrant (DI), borrowing language, alay language, facebook. Furthermore, research methods that are used in this study is descriptive qualitative research design. qualitative study is used to know about language used by digital immigrant and digital native in Facebook update status. Then, to analysis the data of this study, the researcher used some procedures, those are reading all facebook update status carefully; reviewing the data that had been collected; selecting the data concerning with the purpose of the study; data reduction; drawing the conclusion. The results of study showed that the use of borrowing from English to Indonesian has some similarities and differences between digital native (DN) and digital immigrants (DI), because they also have an interest differences in the use of language borrowing. Examples of the similarities are "pren", "Walking-walking", Beb.....you made hidupku more alive ". This similarities exists because the words that are used are words commonly that are commonly used by all ages, both digital immigrants and digital natives. Then examples of the differences from digital native (DN) are "BTW", "Whassup", "Don't talk tentang yourself so much", "I had seribu of homework". This is examples of the differences from digital immigrant (DI) are "By The Way", "WhatÂ’s Up", "Don't arrogant themselves", "I have a lot of the homework". This difference occurs because the digital natives (DN) have a younger age range and still not bound by the social environment and the working environment, and that it is different from the digital immigrant (DI).
