Abstract

Keyword : Reading, Teaching Reading, Jigsaw Technique The study of English should have a goal to improve studentsÂ’ skills during their learning process in oral and written form. In a classroom, sometimes the students feel bored and feel difficult to understand the content of reading text. It makes the students have less motivation to learn reading. Therefore, the teacher needs to implement a technique to avoid this condition and to make the class more active and enjoyable. This study is interesting, for it discusses jigsaw technique in teaching reading. The objectives of this study are: (1) to know how the teacher implements the jigsaw technique in the teaching of reading skill for the tenth grade students of MAN 1 Malang, (2) to know the difficulties faced by the teacher in using jigsaw technique in the teaching of reading for the tenth grade of MAN 1 Malang, and (3) to know how the teacher solves the problems using jigsaw technique which is used by the teacher in the teaching of reading for the tenth grade of MAN 1 Malang. This study belongs to qualitative descriptive research design because the writer wants to describe groups activities, situation, or events and material. The data of this study was implementing jigsaw technique in reading skill at tenth grade of Man 1 Malang. The data are collected through observation field note and interview transcription. The data are analyzed by using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that jigsaw technique implemented in reading class by English teacher. The teacher implemented jigsaw technique well. Although, the teacher still found the difficulty, but the teacher solved the problem with using her way. Therefore, this study suggests the teacher should have her or his own technique to create their creativity to get studentsÂ’ interest in studying English. However, when the students interest to study English, they will be easy to understand the material.
