Abstract

This study has the objective to know the factors of motivation affecting Basic speaking I students' motivation of Mahesa English Course Pare in learning speaking and also to find out the teaching techniques used by the teacher to motivate the Basic speaking I students in speaking English. Therefore, the writer would like to conduct a research dealing with the factors of motivation affecting basic speaking I students' motivation in learning speaking at Mahesa English Course Pare and teaching techniques used by the teacher of Basis Speaking I to motivate basic speaking I students in learning speaking. Based on those objectives, descriptive qualitative research was adopted because the writer would like to describe the description of basic Speaking I students' motivation in learning speaking at Mahesa English course and the techniques used by a teacher to motivate the basic speaking I students of Mahesa English course in learning speaking. This study used questionnaire to gain the data of students' motivation as well as observation and interview to obtain the data of the teaching techniques used by the teacher. The data was gained from the students and teacher of basic speaking I at mahesa english course through questionnaire observation and interview. The result showed that there were five factors of motivation that affecting basic speaking I students in learning speaking. It consisted of three factors from the integrative motivation and two factors from instrumental motivation.The three factor of integrative motivation such as they learn speaking English to helps them to communicate with the people from different countries, they feel confident when they can speak English and they want to communicate with the native speaker of English. Then, the two factors of instrumental motivation such as they learn speak English to help them in getting a job and increasing professionalism in their job. Besides, in searching the second research problem, the writer found that the teaching technique used by the teacher of basic speaking I was only presentation or oral report. To make the technique more interesting and motivating, the teacher combined with the students' wilingness.
