Abstract

Keyword : Teaching Speaking, visual media, public figure picture This study aims to describe the use of visual media especially public figure picture which is applied by teacher toward students in SMAN 4 Malang. In this research, the researcher uses qualitative descriptive. The purposes of this research are how does the teacher implement of public figure picture and how do the students respond to the implementation of the public figure picture in teaching speaking. The instruments used in this study are interview and observation. The findings obtained by the researcher in learning and teaching by using public figure picture is to apply a public figure and a picture of the student respond. Implementation of public figure picture in teaching speaking is by introducing yourself as the public figure. Teacher shows several pictures of public figures and biography as an example. Then the students were divided into groups and each group has the right to choose one public figure picture to be presented in front of the class. Students must know clearly about the biography of the public figure picture that they have chosen. Because of their role as artist they have selected. After the presentation the other students are ready for giving out questions regarding the presentation has been delivered by group presentations. In terms of students' responses to learn with this media we can see from the response of the students at the beginning of the introduction of these media, especially public figures picture. Enthusiastic and various studentsÂ’ questions to the teacher and other groups to prove that students are interested in learning by using public figures picture. In conclusion , the use of visual media, especially public figures picture in teaching and learning speaking is more eassy for the teacher and students to be implemented in speaking class. ItÂ’s also very interesting and easily to be understood by the students.
