Abstract

Keyword : Descriptive Text, Picture Card, Problems, Teaching, Writing Descriptive text is considered as one of important text to be taught. In writing descriptive text, the students need creativity and also supported by good and interesting media. When the students got low score in writing descriptive text because the teacher use the media that make the students feel bored. The media is used by the teacher could not motivate the students to write the descriptive text. Therefore, the writer wants to find out the problems, the factors that cause by the teacher in teaching descriptive text, and teacherÂ’s solution to the problems in teaching descriptive text by using animal cartoon picture cards at SMP Muhammadiyah 04 Malang. The descriptive qualitative research design was employed in this study. The data were collected from English teacher while teaching in the class at SMP Muhammadiyah 04 Malang. The instruments that used by the writer in this study were interview guide and observation checklist. The writer used interview guide as the instrument in order to know the problems faced by the teacher and teacherÂ’s solution to the problems in teaching descriptive text by using animal cartoon picture cards. Then, the writer used observation checklist as the instrument to know the factors that cause by the teacher in teaching descriptive text. Based on the result in this study, the writer found several problems that faced by the teacher while teaching writing descriptive text. Some cases in this point were studentsÂ’ vocabulary, studentsÂ’ grammar, and studentsÂ’ difficulties in describing animal cartoon picture cards. However, there were another factors that cause the problem faced by the teacher. Some cases in this point were the students had limited motivation and they did not focus on the lesson while the teacher explained the material. Besides, the students were also passive in the class when a teacher taught the materials. In this study, the writer also found the teacherÂ’s solution. The teacherÂ’s solution was giving homework based on vocabulary and grammar problems. The teacher argued that giving homework was really helpful to solve the problems faced by the teacher. Therefore, the solution made by the teacher was success when it is applied to the students.
