Abstract

Literature is a unique art in fiction and nonfiction and it is expressed in written and spoken language. It aims to create thoughts and feelings. Novel is one of literary works that has purpose of giving entertainment, enjoyment, and information for the readers. By reading and analyzing the novel For One More Day by Mitch Albom, the readers can take some values from the main character, Mother, who nurtures her child with her personality since the children's growth depends on their mother's personality. The purposes of this study are to find out what the mother's personality is and the effects of mother's personality in nurturing her child in Mitch Albom's novel For One More Day. In analyzing this novel, the descriptive qualitative method is applied because this study is concerned in analyzing this novel descriptively. The object of the study is the whole events in the form of paragraphs and dialogues in the novel For One More Day by Mitch Albom. Based on the result of this study, it is found that there are two types of mother's personality in the novel. They are: (1) Sanguine: outgoing, charismatic, warm, friendly, responsive, talkative, enthusiastic, carefree, compassionate, and generous (2) Choleric: decisive and courageous. There are four effects of the mother's personality in her child's life. They are: (1) demanding (2) noncompliant (3) aggressive and (4) dependent.
