Humans are social creatures who need it most and can not live without other people. Communication. especially interpersonal communication is one requirement that can not be avoided. Along the development era, communication is not only possible.facetoface, but also can be done through a specific communication media. One communications media that developing today is the internet. Internet media presents kinds of communication facilities is one of social networking sites or a web community like Facebook. facebook one of the sites The most popular nowadays, where most users are students. Formulation of the problem in this research is the extent of interpersonal communication through the media facebook effectiveness majoring in Communication of students University of Muhammadiyah Malang force 20082009. While the objectives to be achieved in this research is to know and how to describe how big the efectivity of facebook interpersonal communication through the media, especially on a student majoring in Communication, University of Muhammadiyah Malang force from 2008 to 2009. This research uses descriptive quantitative research methods (Descriptive research) using a survey approach. Subjects research on this is a student majoring in Communication, University of Muhammadiyah 20082009 force that amount in total is 740 students. 360 students from the army in 2008 and 380 students of force, 2009. Sampling technique using Yamane formula with the percentage of inaccuracy of 10% so we get 88 sample of respondents. Then taken with the technique judgmental sampling and proportional balance sampling. with details of the 43 respondents from force in 2008 and 45 respondents from the force in 2009. While the techniques of collecting data in this study was conducted by a questionnaire. Analysis data using the formula Mean (average total value of respondents' answers were divided by the number of respondents). From the results of the analysis determined mean value of 3:33, which means that interpersonal communication through the medium of facebook on students, especially students majoring in Communication, University of Muhamadiyah Malang be effective. This is based on the results of the distribution of interval scale which indicate if the amount of 13 Mean values categorized ineffective; 3.15 categorized effective. From the distribution of interval scale, we can conclude that the effectiveness of the media, facebook is very small, the excess above the limit of 0.2 effective scale.
