Abstract

Keyword : Classroom, Interaction, Speaking Class, Teacher Talk, Student Talk The study entitled Classroom Interaction Used in Speaking Class of the Tenth Grade Students at MAN Malang I aims at investigating the kinds of classroom interaction happening in the class, the teacherÂ’s perception about the classroom interaction happening in the class and how to make the classroom interaction improved based on the teacherÂ’s perception. The study employes the qualitative design and it is supported by quantitaive data. It is conducted at one of the islamic high school in Malang. The subjects of the study are an English teacher and 32 students of an English Class. The data are collected through questionnaire, observation, and interview. The data are analyzed by using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that the kind of classroom interaction happening in the class is teacher-student-student style. The writer also finds that the interaction between teacher and the students and among students are occurred verbally. Furthermore, according to the teacherÂ’s perception, the classroom interaction is already good, since the students give response to the teacher and they work in pair. However the teacher still has a difficulty to motivate the students to talk and learn English. Another result shows that there are three ways to make the classroom interaction improved. The first way is inviting the students to talk by greeting and asking the students about the previous and current material. The second is creating the interaction among students by asking the students to ask their friends when they do not understand about the lesson. The last is relating the lesson to the cultures and surroundings so it will be familiar for the students. Therefore, this study suggests the teacher to have her or his own ways or strategies to create good a classroom interaction in the class. This study also suggests the students to always try to speak english with both teacher and the other students in the class, in order to make them fluent in speaking English.
