Abstract

Keyword : Motivation, technology use, academic book. Observing the phenomena in our daily activities where many people use technology devices and realizing the lack of motivation in reading books, it makes the researcher concern to examine the correlation between students’ reading motivation and technology use in reading academic books, especially in printed version books. The aim of this present study is to identify whether or not the existence of technology hinder students’ reading motivation to read academic books in printed version. To examine the students’ reading motivation and technology used, the researcher distributed two questionnaires; students’ reading motivation and technology use questionnaire. Those questionnaires were distributed randomly to a hundred respondents and were analyzed using Product Moment Correlation Formula. The data shows the value of correlation between students’ reading motivation and technology used in reading academic books is 0.348 (> r-table, 0.197). From that data, the result explains the correlation is on “moderate” category of correlation. This correlation stated that the existence of technology does not hinder the English Language Education Departments’ student at UMM to read academic books, especially in printed version.
