Abstract

The study aimed to find out whether or not the use of cooperative-communicative learning method (Expert Group Type) can enhance students' reading ability. This study was conducted for the students at VIII grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Malang. In achieving the objective of the study, the researcher conducted a quantitative experimental study with quasi experimental research non-randomized control group design. The sample of the study was VIII A as a control group and VIII C as the experiment group. The data were collected from students' worksheet in the pre-test and post-test. The computation of statistical method of Independent t-test was applied. The researcher used two group; experiment and control group. Experiment group had received the treatment of expert group discussion for reading text while control group receive a normal discussion like what they have done in the class as usual, pair discussion. Computing Independent t-test by SPSS program, the data showed that the level of significance was under the 5 % or 0.05. It showed that there was a significant differences between two set of data. Then, it can be concluded that the class with the implementation cooperative-communicative learning method (Expert Group Type) had better achievement than that who were not.
