Abstract

Keyword : Classroom Management, Speaking Class. This study focused on describing the classroom management applied by foreign lecturer in Speaking I of English department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The statement of the problems focused on how the foreign lecturer applied classroom management in teaching speaking at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, the lecturersÂ’s problems and solutions. This current research is different from the previous research. Firstly, in the previous researches the course was English as an integrated subject which covered all language skills and components, but this research is only focused on one skil, that is speaking. Secondly, in the previous researches, studies were conducted in elementary and secondary levels, but this research is in higher education level. Thirdly, in the previous studies, the subject of the research was local (Indonesian) English teachers, but this research involves foreigner lecturer Moreover, the researcher used qualitative research design because it was directed to obtain the information and natural situation related to the classroom management applied by foreign lecturer in teaching speaking of English Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The instruments used observation and interview. Furthermore, the research subject in this study was foreign lecturer who teaches speaking Iof English Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The result of the study showed that the foreign lecturer applied classroom management which included physical arrangement, classroom routines and procedures, classroom rules, and framework for implementing behavior management intervention. Besides, the lecturer also found three problems such as limited space and poor of ventilation, studentsÂ’ misbehavior who did not submit the project on time, and the difficulty to choose the appropriate activity based on the studentsÂ’ ability. Furthermore, the lecturer tried to solve the problems by providing outside class, giving some treatments to those misbehave studentsÂ’, and creating activities which involves the smart and the poor students so they caninteract with each other.
