This study focused on describing the classroom management done by the teacher in teaching English at SMPN I Gondangwetan, Pasuruan. The statements of the problem were focused on the teacher’s preparations in managing the class, the aspects of classroom management done by the teacher, and the problems encountered by the teacher in managing classroom. This research used descriptive qualitative case study design. The instruments used were nonparticipant observation and structured interview. The research subject in this study was an English Teacher at SMPN I Gondangwetan, Pasuruan. The result of this study showed that the teacher did some preparations in managing class, such as: making lesson plan, setting rules, and arranging students’ seating. Furthermore, to manage the class, the teacher did some strategies such as withitness, momentum and smoothness, group alerting, students’ accountability, overlapping, satiation and challenge arousal. Besides, during managing the class, the teacher found some external and internal problems. The external problems encountered by the teacher were the lackness of text book, facilities, and media that supported the teaching learning process. The internal problems found by the teacher were students’ misbehaviors such as gross motor misbehavior, noise making, verbalization misbehavior, and orienting. It can be concluded that the teacher tried to manage the classroom in teaching English well. He applied some strategies in preparation and classroom management aspects.
