Abstract

Background: Excessive exposure to UV light can cause various problems with the skin and cause premature aging caused by the presence of free radicals. The attack of free radicals, especially UV rays, can be prevented by providing antioxidants. Moringa leaves are a source of natural antioxidants that contain flavonoids and quercetin, which are efficacious as antioxidants to overcome oxidative stress on the skin, so a peel-off gel mask preparation is formulated using the active ingredients of moringa leaf extract (Moringa oleifera L.).
Objective: To determine the effect of variations in concentrations of 7% and 9% PVA and 2.5% and 3% HPMC levels on the preparation of moringa leaf extract peel-off gel masks on antioxidant activity using the DPPH method.
Methods: Experimental research by measuring the antioxidant activity of Moringa leaf extract in peel-off gel mask preparations with varying concentrations of PVA base (7% and 9%) with HPMC (2.5% and 3%) using the DPPH method and measuring its absorption using spectrophotometry UV-Vis.
Results and Conclusion: The results of this study obtained an IC50 value of moringa leaf extract of 40.88 ppm, including very strong antioxidants. From the results of absorbance measurements, the %inhibition of each formula was obtained, namely formula 1 36.67% ± 12.52, formula 2 35.45 ± 17.10, formula 3 36.35 ± 22.76, and formula 4 36.03 ± 15.87. Furthermore, in %inhibition, Two Way Anova testing was carried out with the results that there was no significant difference between formulas 1, 2, 3, 4, namely p value = 0,723> 0.05 (α value).
