Abstract
ABSTRACT This study departs from the phenomenon of the use of metaphor in the language journalism, especially in news writing activities in the newspaper. News in fact not a fact, but the reconstruction of a fact. In reconstructing the facts, the language used should explain exactly like the building that fact, but in the practice of writing news, the metaphor often used to describe a particular fact. In fact, the basic character of the metaphor is always pointing to something else, something that is not really meant. From here, researchers are interested to know the use of metaphors in the language of journalism which significantly manifested in the writings of the news text. The purpose of this study was to determine the function of descriptive and transformative function of metaphor in language use in journalism, so that the hermeneutic of Paul Ricoeur introduced into an appropriate analysis method to analyze this research problem. The scope of this study is the text of the news contained in the Metropolis Newsroom Jawa Pos Edition Sunday, August 16, 2009 which reported on the spa plus-plus in Surabaya. While the focus of this research is about the use of metaphor in the language of journalism, which is how the function of metaphor in language use journalism. This research uses resources of non-human form of documents and data. The primary data obtained by clipping and re-write the original script without editing, while the secondary data obtained through the research literature. Analysis of data (text) in this study begins with a description of the Jawa Pos, and on the news text in Jawa Pos Newsroom Metropolis Edition Sunday, August 16, 2009. The analysis then continued with the interpretation of the meaning of metaphor, then continued with the interpretation of the descriptive function and transformative function of metaphor. From the analysis of data, obtained conclusions: first, the use of metaphor in language practice journalism have a sense of reference to the facts and reality. Second, the metaphor used in the text of a news paper that using the Indonesian language, and there is also the language/terms foreign. Indonesian-language metaphor is a metaphor that was popular usage in the middle of society, so that the meaning and reality presented by the metaphor that can be effectively understood by the reader. But the metaphor of a foreign term, meaning of reference require interpretation and the process of interpretation, so that's not easy to understand, especially by readers who rate their knowledge in a category "below". Third, the descriptive function of metaphor refers to the use of metaphor to explain or describe an event clearly and in detail. Descriptive function of this metaphor in the end is closely related to ethics and norms of journalism, namely: that the national press is obliged to respect the community a sense of decency, and the necessity to not broadcast journalist journalistic work obscene. Fourth, transformative function of metaphor metaphor refers to the treatment of readers. Transformative function of metaphor is closely intertwined with the requirement that an event must have a value in order to attract certain to be preached, transformative function of metaphor is in order to be interesting news to be listened to. Starting with this series of studies, researchers suggest some things for the sake of further research, namely: first, expand the scope of research on other media that have relevance, in order to enrich the study of references and metaphors in the language of journalism. Second, doing research on metaphors in the language of journalism is more comprehensive, for example, about various and forms a common metaphor used in journalism. Third, it is advisable to examine the text as a whole, be it writing or drawing, using a variety of research approaches (for example, semiotic analysis, discourse analysis, framing analysis, etc..), So that interpretation or a more holistic interpretation of the metaphor in the language of journalism. In addition, researchers also recommend: journalist and the media should always refer to the ethical responsibility to produce and broadcast journalism works, so the metaphors used are not overly aroused libido-libido sex. Journalist and media should also avoid or at least reduce the use of terms and foreign metaphor.
