Abstract

Literature represents a language or a people: culture and tradition. Literature introduces to new worlds of experience, of arranging words in pleasing pattern, of expressing in words some special aspect of human experience. Film is one of literary works that was taken as the object of study. It is because film illustrates the real life, includes conflicts, problems and other aspects of life. Film as one of literary works gives not only pleasure to its viewers but also gives a valuable lesson and knowledge about people and life. Moreover, it is focused on describing the divorce. Everyone whishes to have long lasting marriage, but when things are not working, then marriage couple should know what to do end what they have started. Studies in American Society have proved that divorce is like new trends. Many marriage couple get divorce easily. This study aimed at analyzing on Liz Gilbert's divorce in Brad Pitt's Film "Eat Pray Love". There were three statements of problems; what are the reasons on Liz Gilbert's divorce in "Eat Pray Love", what are the effects to herself, how does she overcome her divorce? The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative and applied objective approach because the writer only analyzed "Eat Pray Love" Film without studying the author's life. The object of this study is taken from the dialogue and actions of whole events related to the term of divorce faced by Liz Gilbert in "Eat Pray Love" Film. As a result, there were three points in answering the statements of problems. The reasons of Liz Gilbert's divorce in "Eat Pray Love" were Liz felt she was not involved in the family and Stephen (Liz's husband) was waiting for having children. Then, the effects of Liz Gilbert's divorce to herself were loneliness, impingement, and depression. Also, making interaction, accepting the reality and moving on were some ways that was done by Liz Gilbert to overcome her divorce.
