Abstract

This study focused on describing the Digital NativesÂ’ perception toward the mobile phone roles in school at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 malang. The statement of the problem was focused on the Digital NativesÂ’ perception toward the mobile phone roles in school. This research used descriptive qualitative design. The instruments used were non-participant observation and unstructured interview. The research subject in this study was second grade students in Multimedia 2 class that consist of twenty seven students. The sample were ten students. The result of this study showed that the Digital Native need mobile phone in school during the class to help them knowing something about the lesson that they did not know before by searching in internet, used the application of dictionary that available in their mobile phone to know the meaning of vocabulary in English subject. The positive effect using mobile phone in school was the Digital Natives will know a new information soon especially about the lesson and it will improve the Digital NativeÂ’s knowledge. The negative effect of using mobile phone in school was sometimes some the Digital Native used their mobile phone to sending messages during class and they will lose cooncentration to their study. Furthermore, most of Digital Natives did not agree with the rule of school that forbidden to bring mobile phone in school because the Digital Native need their mobile phone to know something new. It can be concluded that the Digital Natives tried to know the new information by using their mobile phone so the were needed their mobile phone in school especially during the class to support their study.
