Abstract

Listening is one of English skill that focuses on understanding oral communication and understanding what the speaker says. Students think that listening activities are bored, so they need new method in teaching learning activities toward listening. in order to make students enjoy in class, storytelling is one option to make them fun and enjoy in listening class. Storytelliing is diffrent with reading story, in storytelling, teacher can do without any book. In this study, the researcher used experimental design. In this case, the experimental group was given a treatment using storytelling and the control group was treated without using storytelling. The researcher take fifth grade students of SDN Tlogomas 2, they consist of two classes. They are 5 A and 5B, 5A has 37 students and VB has 42 students. The instrument to collect the data was listening test. The data of this study were analyzed using ANOVA. And the result of the calculation showed that there are no significant diffrencebetween experimental and control group of pre-test score. The mean score of experimental group was 57.8 and the mean score of control group was 62.0. in other hand, there are significant different in the result of post-test score. The main score of control group was 60.3 and the score of experimental group was 71.6. therefore, teaching listening using storytelling could improve students’ fifth grade listening ability in SDN Tlogomas 2.
