Abstract

Language plays an important role in our life. By language, people can communicate and interact to share information to our society. Language used by Madani FM broadcasters in "Colors" program is different. They used special code to make the listeners more interested, happy, and create an intimate relationship. Knowing that the code mixing is unique, the writer is interested in studying it. In this study, the writer is interested to analyze code mixing in "Colors" program used by Madani FM broadcasters in Bojonegoro. In detail, this study is to (1) identify the forms of code mixing used by Madani FM broadcasters in "Colors" program in Bojonegoro, (2) describe the purposes of Madani FM broadcasters mix their codes in broadcasting. This study used descriptive qualitative design because the writer described and interpreted the phenomena that existed in Madani FM radio. The subject of this study was three female Madani FM broadcasters in "Colors" program. In applying this method, there were two instruments in taking the data. They were observation whom the writer acted as non-participant observer and interview by using unstructured interview. After analyzing the data, it was found four forms of code mixings used by Madani FM broadcasters in "Colors" program: 61 code mixings in word, 19 code mixings in word reduplication, 33 code mixings in phrase, and 10 code mixings in clause. The purposes of the broadcasters mixed their codes are: First, the broadcasters felt more comfortable using code mixing in "Colors" program. Second, the broadcasters mixed their code to attract the listeners, they use familiar terms in code mixing in order to ease the listeners to understand the message and make the listeners happy listening to the "Colors" program. Third, the broadcasters keep their relationship with the listeners. Four, the broadcasters emphasize their knowledge and the listeners got lot of information from the broadcasters. Last, the broadcasters mixed their code when there was no obvious word available in one language. It can be concluded that in the informal situation such as FM radio broadcast, the using of code mixing is possible. Code mixing used by the broadcasters of Madani FM make the broadcasting lively, so the information present by the broadcasters in "Colors" program is understandable by the listeners.
