Abstract

However some student gets difficulty in learning speaking such as lack of motivation, anxiety and shyness in class. To overcome this problem the teacher using strip story technique. It can be taken from newspaper, magazine, internet, and text book. The aim of this study is to know the effect of using strip story on the student’ speaking ability at SMP Darush Sholihin Batu. In this study, the researcher used quasi- experiment research design. In this case, the experimental group was given a treatment using strip story and the control group was treated without strip story. The population in this study was all of the students of grade VIII of SMP Darush Sholikin Batu which were divided into two classes. Class 8A consisted of 15 students and 8B consisted of 14 students. The researcher selected control group and experimental group by using random sampling technique. As a result, class 8A was experimental group and 8B was control group. Based on the result of data analysis on the post test of experimental and control groups, the students speaking ability of experimental group was better than control group. This was because the mean score of the post test of the experimental group was 80.3 while the mean score of the control group was 73.9. Moreover after being computed by using ANOVA it was found that F-ratio was 6.78 and the level of significance was 0.05 and the degree of freedom was 27, then the F-table value was found to be 4.18. The data showed that the value of F-ratio was greater than the F-table. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. So it is conclude that students who are taught using strip story show better ability than those without strip story.
