Abstract

The purposes of this study are to know and to get answer of whether or not there is difference of reading achievement between extrovert and introvert students at English Department of UMM. In this study the writer used ex-post facto research because this study was purposed to investigate variables that cannot be manipulated by the researcher about the different achievement between extrovert and introvert students in learning Reading Comprehension III subject at English Department of UMM. The sampling technique used in this study was cluster sampling because the writer selected sampling based on group not individual. The research instrument used by the writer was closed ended questionnaire and documentation. Closed ended questionnaire was used to make the respondents easier to answer. Documentation was used to collect the data of raw score Reading III in middle-test. The population of this study was the third semester students of Reading class at English Department UMM. The total number of students was 238 students and divided into 10 classes; class A has 24 students, class B has 24 students, class C has 17 students, class D has 23 students, class E has 25 students, class F has 25 students, class G has 28 students, class H has 30 students class I has 30 students, class J has 23 students. The writer took class E as a sample because class E had the nearly equal number of extrovert and introvert students. Based on the result, the Mean score of extrovert students was 76.46 and the Mean score of introvert students was 81.67. The different Mean between extrovert and introvert was -5.20513. From the result of t-test computation, the tcomputation was -1.551 and the ttable was 2.07. The level of significance was 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) was 23. It could be seen that tcomputation between -ttable and ttable (-2.07<-1.551<2.07). It means that there is no significant difference between extrovert and introvert students in learning reading, because the Mean difference was only -.5.20513. Therefore, t-test result is "There is no significant difference of Reading Comprehension III achievement between extrovert and introvert student".
